glopes@umich.edu I have received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at University of Michigan in 2007 with Professor Koditschek as advisor. I am affiliated to the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory , Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department , College of Engineering , Horace H Rackham School of Graduate Studies . I was supported in part by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia , Portugal.
I received my Aerospace engineering degree in 1998, from Instituto Superior Técnico , Universidade Técnica de Lisboa , Portugal.
My research towards the Ph.D. deals with navigation of robots in unknown environments. To perform this task, computer vision methods are used to build topological maps of the environment. This abstract representation of the world is then used for navigation. The following topics are among my main research interests:
- Non-Linear Control
- Computer Vision
- Discrete Event Systems
- Robotics
I have recently co-founded a new robotics company:
Sandbox Innovations
